THE PLUMSTED GRILL STORY

Hurricane Sandy - the second-costliest hurricane in United States history - will be remembered for years to come, especially by those directly affected by it. The superstorm, which made landfall on October 29, 2012 near Brigantine, New Jersey, resulted in over $68 billion in damages; a total only surpassed by Hurricane Katrina. As Sandy made its way up the coast toward New York, over two million residences and businesses in New Jersey alone, were left without power. To make matters worse, it would be weeks, and in some cases months, before power was restored.

The Plumsted Grill in Cream Ridge, NJ was just one of those many businesses affected by the storm. Great Eastern Energy had been working with the restaurant for two years prior, supplying them with gas and power in a combination of hybrid and fixed price programs. During that time, Great Eastern Energy was able to control Plumsted Grill's energy costs and manage risks.

"The impact surprised everybody."

When Sandy hit, Plumsted Grill was left without electricity for eight days, essentially shutting down the restaurant. This translated to approximately $70,000 in lost revenue, with $25,000 of that attributed to perishable foods.
